Timing is everything, and in developing a professional web design for your online business you always have to hit with the right timing. From the very first moment your visitors arrive to you homepage, the count down timer to impress them is already ticking. Your website should provide them the information they need within the time frame they need. Many busy web surfers, visiting a website is a matter of mere seconds. It may sound difficult to build a website that has the look and functionality you want at the same time satisfies its visitors with the time limitation. However, it is possible just by remembering some simple rules of web design:
Minimize image size
.JPEG and .GIF are two commonly used file formats in web design. .JPEG for photos and .GIF for graphic images, these files can be compressed to drastically reduce file size and, therefore, increase the download speed of the web pages on which they are located. Another trick to save time is putting the dimensions of your images in HTML code.
Avoid Flash
Flash is guaranteed to increase the download speed of your website, in professional web design purposes however, there is no guarantee that your visitors will have the right flash to view your flash design. While flash does have its benefits, majority of websites can benefit fro using little- if any at all.
Use CSS styling
CSS web design cuts down on the overall amount of code and allows a website?s content to be separated from its web design language. The result is momentous bandwidth reduction and increases the download speed.
Limit external content
If the design of your website contains elements that download from different server (such as video), each element will produce HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) request every time the page loads. While a single request may only add 1-2 seconds of loading time, it could be enough to cause irritation for your visitors.
Evaluate page size
Though it is necessary to consider files sizes individually, do not neglect to look at your website as the sum of its parts. Sum up all the files on your web pages together and look for ways to keep overall page size below 50KB.
Speed is one of the many factors that contribute to the success of your website. If you want to create a website with a professional web design for your online business, you can save your visitors (and yourself) time by remembering these five time-saving web design tips.

The most important thing to decide is what your web site will be about. Decide on the look you want and specific theme, or look at other sites to get ideas. You can not copy another site but there is no law against gaining inspiration. There are also lots of sites that will give you free PHP scripts. The advantage of PHP scripts is that you can design the entire site by only changing a few pages. The sites that give away free scripts will also sell add-ons. Add-ons are a quick easy way to solve a problem or complete a task. You must ensure that add-ons are compatible with the main scripts.
Often your web hosting company will supply a WYSIWYG web site design program free of cost. WYSIWYG is shorthand for “What You See Is What You Get”. These are a little restricted in what they can achieve and are normally HTML based.
PHP scripts will often have their own setup scripts and instructions to get a basic site up and working in a few hours. Whilst PHP is quite complex, you will need to get a basic understanding to be able to adjust your site.
If you are planning to sell something then you will need a merchant account such as PayPal. It is very important for credibility to have a relevant email address. Lots of people are put off by email contacts from a company that uses Gmail or Hotmail. When you own a URL, you will be able to set up an email using that extension. You need to learn how to do this and it can often be easily setup in the hosting account.
Make your web site simple but interesting. Try to get your audience to sit up in awe of your content or product. Keep your web site interesting, and easy to use. Write killer content or sales copy. Most importantly, before you go live, test the web site thoroughly.

There’s a lot you can do beyond the obvious.
Call me old-fashioned. At age 51, I still struggle with, and sometimes resist, 21st-century technology. When I first started getting invitations to connect on LinkedIn a few years ago, I winced. Do I have to do this, I wondered. But I begrudgingly spent a hasty five minutes clicking through one of those invitation e-mails and filling out some basic information about myself. Then I left the site.
From time to time after that I’d get invites and messages. Often I ignored them, or put them off for another day. Since Facebook seemed more fun, with its photos and games and fan pages, I spent much more time there, accumulating more than 200 “friends,” revising my bio several times, and posting my article links.

In Pictures: Make LinkedIn Help You Find A Job
Then 10 months ago I started covering leadership and careers, and every career expert I interviewed, from coaches to headhunters to campus recruiters, told me that LinkedIn was an essential job search tool. Not only can you instantly get the word out to hundreds, if not thousands, of colleagues, bosses and potential employers about your latest accomplishments, ambitions and changes in employment status, but your LinkedIn profile can serve as a passive job magnet, since recruiters and hiring managers use the site as a gold mine for locating candidates.
I figured I would draw on my expert sources for advice on how to best polish up my LinkedIn profile and do whatever I could to make the most of the service. Then I’d offer my experience to you, my readers, as a kind of how-to guide. If I can do it, anyone can.
As a journalist, I was lucky enough to be able to start by talking to a LinkedIn staffer, career expert and spokeswoman Krista Canfield, who spent two patient hours with me on the phone, walking me through LinkedIn’s most essential steps. I quickly discovered that the site’s tools are so deep and rich that I ought to write more than one article about how to use it.

Lots of people are intimidated into not starting up a web presence. It’s really not all that bad, or expensive. In a series of articles on the subject I’ll show everything from registering a domain to what software to use to promoting your web site and generating revenue. This is the first article that series.
This is the earliest in a multi part procession of articles about building a professional web site
on a budget. The intended audience for this paper is everyone with any technical ability (or maybe you know someone with experience), and you want to build some sort of world wide web presence without spending a lot of money.
To make this dissertation simple I am going to use an enterprise called godaddy.com for the domain registration and hosting. While this essay isn’t supposed to be a exact endorsement of godaddy, I have been happy with their packages and utilizing them allows me to post some real numbers.
Deciding on a domain name.
This could be the most time consuming part of beginning your web site. There are a couple of angles we should look at.
- Will you be attempting to promote your product?
- Will you be trying to achieve good search engine results?
- Will you be trying to convey an idea?
Chances are you are attempting to do some of all three. Just remember this, if you have no customers, your brand name and idea are nearly worthless. Try to get a good balance, but recognize to pick a domain name with some keywords that you are trying to address in your SEO (search engine optimization). If you are unfamiliar with the concept of SEO, you can find a ton of information and mis-information on the internet about it. Some of my future essays will further explain this, so depending on when you are studying this you will want to try one of the web sites listed in the author resource box for more information.

The choice is yours. If you are starting up your own small business or simply wish to promote yourself, sell your house, show off your children – there are a multitude of places available to find information and make your personal/company website become a reality. Let’s take a look at what is on offer in the Do-it-Yourself Web Design packages, what the basics are and how they can help you.
If you begin from scratch you can research online advice on how to design your first website. Alternatively you can take an online course. Research these well online and you can bypass buying lots of unnecessary software (i.e. WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) software) – find the sites that offer the tuition, know how and include the software in the deal. These courses range from free, upwards of £70 to £300. A small annual charge is payable for the domain name (www. company or your name.com).
There are numerous free sites which claim to offer the web designer the possibility to easily build a website with no technical skills required. Some do a ‘one stop’ box where you pay a flat fee, install the discs, follow the instructions and using their templates as a starting point, design and optimise to your own requirements. These systems are very basic and some promise 100s of templates which are customisable as well as free web hosting and no banner or pop-up ads. Once again there is an annual fee payable for the domain name. This would be a good first stop for someone with limited technical skills.
If you are more IT literate and want to design your website with minimum outlay there are innumerable sites out there offering packages so you can buy, install and customise your site for your own business or agency, again these sites all depend on your confidence in IT and your knowledge of things such as: HTML codes, (there are lots of sites demistyfying this side of the process) web hosting, (sometimes this comes free) your knowledge of graphic design, layout skills, marketing strategy, target audience and market research tools.

A business has to make a multitude of decisions involving marketing strategies, and in an age where everything is happening online, your businesses website and web design is critical to your profit margins. There are choices as to whom will be the leader in your web design and development – from taking the task on with your own two hands to hiring a professional. Maybe a colleague or someone who works for you has an idea as to how it is done, but to be sure it is done to maximum potential – a freelance web developer or marketing firm would be your number one bet.
Deciding To Go Alone or a Non-Professional
Now you might think that attempting to go it alone or using the non-professional service of a colleague/neighbour/good friend will save you pennies, but what are the other benefits involved? Next to zero!
You will, more likely than not, run into a fair amount of problems such as a bad design in general, navigation errors, incompatibility with certain web browsers, non-completion of projects and updates. If customers do not get on easily with your website they will give your product or service a miss – in the belief that you are not professionals. A website that is poor quality will reflect on your business as a whole and may not give it the profile it deserves.
The Benefits of a Freelance Web Designer
Freelance designers and developers are plentiful and most of them are credible too. They should have a good background in Emarketing and web development as well as a thorough, up to date knowledge on the industry. You can put your trust in them for delivering a high end of the scale website, but you may run into problems later down the line. This is not always the case, but being a freelancer, they tend to be the sole worker and if they have a busy schedule they may not have time for you in the future. Being able to maintain a website, make appropriate changes and updates, is just as important as the initial building of it.

Professional Web Design Software
There are millions of quality graphic designers who simply don’t have the time or the patience to learn how to code a professional website correctly. If you’re one of those, then don’t worry! Professional web design software that transforms PSD to HTML in minutes is available in the shape of software like BaseKit.
Time & Money
Do you own your own business? Perhaps you freelance and supply your clients with websites created from scratch? If this is you, consider the amount of time and money you could save if you were able to design a website in Photoshop, and transform that PSD into HTML!
“Transforming a Photoshop file into a professional website in minutes?”
Yes! Professional web design software is now available that allows you to spend only a few hours creating a website, instead of the weeks or months you used to spend!
“I want high quality, professional websites”
Who doesn’t? If you can design (or get someone to design) well in Photoshop then that’s all you need! Professional web design software wouldn’t exist if the results were poor – using a piece of kit that provides professional looking results in minutes will have you wondering “why didn’t I do this earlier?”!
Take the step…
…and start saving time and money. If you have decided that you want to create professional websites in a matter of minutes, then the next thing to do is find the best website design software. There are many poor quality pieces of kit out there, but if you know where to look, you’ll have a stunning website in no time!
After using many different web design software kits, I can highly recommend BaseKit – not only are they competitively priced, they supply a piece of software that even my Grandma could use!
